LinkedIn is where your buyers do their homework. 82% of B2B buyers research a sales rep on LinkedIn before they ever reply. So we took a hard look at how Insights, Data & Research sales teams actually show up there — and what the best ones do differently.
This guide is the full report: profile hygiene, posting frequency, content mix, network growth, the sector’s top performers, and a practical playbook for winning in 2026. No fluff, no sign-up — just download it.

What’s inside
We ran a six-month study of how the Insights sector really uses LinkedIn:
- 4,500 profiles reviewed
- 8,400 LinkedIn posts assessed
- 1.01m post engagements
- 30+ sector companies, 563k data points in total
Here’s a taste of what we found.
The sector is behind the wider B2B market
We expected an industry built on data and research to lead on LinkedIn. It doesn’t.
- Only 65% of Insights sellers have added a profile picture, against a B2B market average of 77%. Only 59% have completed their summary section.
- 68% of sales roles hadn’t posted an original piece of content in the past six months (the market sits at 49%).
- Just 1% post original content at least weekly, versus a market standard of 4%.
Most buyers dismiss an incomplete profile out of hand — and a rep who never posts is invisible at exactly the moment a prospect is doing their research.
What the top performers do differently
The best profiles aren’t posting career updates and event check-ins. They’re posting thought leadership, company news and product news — the content that actually helps a prospective buyer.
They also build their networks deliberately. Sellers with 5k+ connections add around 29 new connections a month, and the most frequent posters add the most. It’s a rhythm, not a one-off.
Across the sector, the standout companies — Oxford Economics, Gartner, Cint and Circana — share one thing: a system for consistent content and steady network growth. It isn’t luck.
How to win in 2026: Create, Connect, Convert
The report lays out the three jobs every seller has on LinkedIn:
- Create — post relevant, sector-specific content at least weekly to stay top of mind and influence pipeline.
- Connect — find the prospects engaging with industry content and add them to your network.
- Convert — send outbound that adds value, isn’t AI slop, and goes beyond “I see you went to the same university as me” personalisation.
Doing all three, consistently, is genuinely hard. That’s the entire reason Drumbeat exists — we handle Create, Connect and Convert for sales teams, so the rhythm the top performers have actually becomes sustainable.
